Judge Instructions

%u25CF Registration
%u25CB Judges will click on the link provided by their coordinator, which will take them to
the homepage of the contest. Note: If this is the judge’s first contest of the
2019 contest season they will follow the instructions below to create their
account. If they have already created an account for the 2019 contest
season, they will enter the same username and password under the
heading “Login.” They will then confirm their information.
%u25CB Under the Create Account heading, judges will enter their name and email
address and click the “Create Account” button to begin registration.
%u25CB When asked for registrant type (student, teacher, judge, volunteer, staff), judges
will select “Judge”.
%u25CB Judges will then complete personal contact information: address, city, zip, phone
number, gender, and will create a password.
%u25CB Judges will then be prompted to answer additional questions.
%u25CB Judges will then agree to NHD permissions and waivers.
%u25CB Click “Save and Continue” button.
%u25CB Judges will see a confirmation screen, from here judges can click the “Login”
button in the upper righthand corner to login to their account.

%u25CF Judging Assignments
%u25CB To access judging assignments judges will click on the “Judging” tab at the top of
the page, then choose “Judge Portal.” This will take the judge to the assignment
and evaluation page. Note: Judges can only access this area once the Contest
Administrator has completed judging assignments.
%u25CB At the top of the Judge Portal screen judges will see the contact information for
the other judges on their team.
%u25CB Below the contact information judges will see the entries assigned to their judging
group. Note: If a judge is assigned to multiple judging groups they will see a tab
listed below “Judging Assignments” for each of their groups.

%u25CF Judging
%u25CB To view and evaluate an entry the judge will click the blue “View & Evaluate”
button under the entry number and title of the chosen entry. This will open the
evaluation page and in the top left corner there is a link to view the entry.
%u25CB After viewing the entry judges will complete the evaluation sheet by filling out all
sections. Note: The notes section is for personal use only. Students will not see
this section and judges will have the opportunity to print these notes to bring to
the contest for the interview.
%u25CB On the far right of the screen judges can monitor their progress and their group
members progress in completing their evaluations. Note: Judges must refresh the
page after making changes for these notices to update.
%u25CB If a judge indicates “No” next to any of the statements within the “Rules
Compliance” section, the judge will need to enter their reasoning in the text box

that appears. This will create a flag on the judging portal page to show this rule
violation indication to the other judging group members. Note: Judges should
discuss all rules compliance violations with their group so all judges are in
agreement.
%u25CB At the bottom of each evaluation there are two blue buttons, “Save” and “Save &
Submit.” The Save button will save the judge’s progress, but not share it with the
judging group. The Save & Submit button will save the evaluation and allow
judging group members to view it for discussion.

%u25CF Judge Captain Instructions
%u25CB Once all judges have completed their evaluations, and submitted them to the
group, the Judge Captain will be able to enter the ranks that the judge group has
agreed on. To enter ranks the Judge Captain will click “Submit Ranking” and
enter the rank for each entry.
%u25CB If the contest offers Special Awards, the Judge Captain can enter the group’s
nominations by clicking on “Special Award Nominations” next to the entry they
wish to nominate and indicate their reasoning. The Judge Captain will click the
green “Nominate” button to complete the nomination.
%u25CB Once the Judge Group has finalized their rankings and Special Award
Nominations, the Judge Captain will click the blue “Submit to NHD” button, which
will send all materials to the Contest Administrator and lock the Judging Group
from making further changes.
